Is Dry Vag-January a thing?!
Vaginal dryness can come from lots of different things – but stress and alcohol (i.e. the festive season in a nutshell) both play a part.
Alcohol slows down blood flow – so if taken in high amounts or repeatedly, it can reduce libido and vaginal lubrication and make it more difficult to orgasm. Stress increases cortisol levels, which in turn can disrupt the vaginal microbiome and stop the release of vaginal glycogen, a key component in the making of your vagina's very own lubricant.
While this doesn’t mean you should hold back during the holidays, we’re here to help you get your vagina back on track. And it starts with getting to know your vaginal microbiome.
The impact of indulgence
Studies have shown that sex, stress, sugar and alcohol can throw off your vaginal microbiome and are linked to an increased risk of infections like thrush and BV.
When you drink alcohol and eat lots of artificial sugar, the excess sugars may end up in the blood which flows to your vagina. Here, they become a feeding ground for bad yeasts and infection-causing bacteria. As these increase and outgrow your good bacteria (lactobacilli) your vaginal flora becomes imbalanced – potentially leading to vaginal infections.
If this sounds familiar, we’ve got good news -- your vaginal microbiome is within your control and we’re here to help you get it back on track.
