At the end of January this year, we introduced our hero product, the Daye tampon.
We were excited to bring innovation to one of the most overlooked product categories in female health—period care. We’re now thrilled to be expanding our product portfolio to include ProViotics for vaginal health.
As you know, we introduced the first gamma-ray sterilised tampons to prevent the risk of pathogens infecting your vaginal microbiome, but we’ve always worked closely with our customers to understand your needs and decide what our next products should be. We soon realised we needed to offer a product that solved the pain and prevalence of recurrent vaginal infections.
We were excited to foster a conversation on the importance of maintaining a healthy vaginal microbiome. As a society, we’ve heard plenty on how integral good bacteria is for your gut; strangely there’s a lot less out there on how good bacteria (lactobacilli) influence vaginal health.
What is the vaginal microbiome and why is it important?
Also referred to as vaginal microbiota, your vaginal microbiome comprises good and bad bacteria. A healthy, balanced vaginal microbiome is one that has over 90% good bacteria.
This balance of good vs bad bacteria has in turn been linked to a lower likelihood of contracting STIs, developing cervical cancer, facing fertility issues or even experiencing a preterm birth.
Your vaginal microbiome also plays a role in your likelihood of contracting vaginal infections like BV and thrush, as well as UTIs. Your urethra is close to your vagina, and having a healthy vaginal flora prevents harmful bacteria from entering your urinary tract.
The balance of your vaginal flora tends to maintain itself, but it’s influenced by a number of physiological factors—anything from your period to your stress levels—and also lifestyle factors, like your choice of lube and condoms.
How good bacteria influences the vaginal microbiome
Good bacteria work by overpowering pathogens. They protect against the overgrowth of harmful organisms, reduce the risk of infections.
Peer-reviewed studies show that consuming good bacteria reduces the time it takes to get over a vaginal infection, increases the cure rate in patients taking antibiotics, and reduces the likelihood of these infections coming back . Some lactobacilli actually actively fight pathogens!
How Daye ProViotics work
Each ProViotic tablet contains 5 billion live cultures of Lactobacillus plantarium, our special strain of lactobacilli clinically validated for safety and efficacy.
Daye’s ProViotic is vegan, allergen-free, and the bacteria is grown in organic carrot juice, whereas most probiotic products are grown in milk cultures. They’re also freeze-dried, which means you don’t have to store them in your fridge, and they retain their properties for longer than your average probiotic.
They work by feeding the good bacteria in your vaginal canal, so your vaginal microbiome is strong and ready to fight off whatever pathogens may come its way.
“This product was developed specifically to increase the ratio of good bacteria in the vaginal canal, strengthening the overall health of the vaginal microbiome, and in turn reducing the likelihood of recurrent infections”, says Professor Simon Gaisford, professor in Pharmaceutics at UCL and members of our medical advisory board.
How they were tested for efficacy and safety
To show the effectiveness of our ProViotics, we partnered with the Center for Applied Science and Innovation. There, we conducted a study with 29 patients, who had confirmed thrush or BV. After a ten day course of using one ProViotic tablet vaginally, 28 out of the 29 patients were fully cured from all species of Candida—the yeast that causes thrush. This is an impressive result compared to other existing treatments, which have an average effectiveness percentage of 86%, compared to Daye’s 97%. Our ProViotic treatment did not produce any side effects in the women taking it, unlike the many side effects experienced by women treating thrush and BV with antifungal medications or antibiotics.
Daye’s ProViotics have also been granted a grandfather safety status by the American Food and Drug Agency (FDA), due to lactobacilli’s long track record of safe use in humans.
How to take Daye ProViotics
Taken orally
Daye ProViotics can be taken once daily as a supplement, on an empty stomach or with food. This will help maintain the overall health of both your gut and vaginal microbiomes. They’re also safe to take after a course of antibiotics, as a way of replenishing the good bacteria in your vagina and gut.
Daye’s ProViotics are proven to reach your gut alive, as they survive the acidity in your stomach. For best results, you need to be consistent, taking them for at least 30 consecutive days.
Taken vaginally
Daye ProViotics can also be taken vaginally. With clean hands, insert one tablet deeply into the vagina while lying on your back, in the evening before going to sleep. Use one tablet daily for 10 consecutive days.

Here's to better vaginal health.
